Ineffable
Earth & Society Institute

Ineffable is defined as being that which is incapable of being expressed in words; that which is too overwhelming, too awesome or sacred to be spoken. Such a notion is truly romantic and purely poetic. This word, ineffable, one should ponder for a time. To imagine, that which one would hold so dear – to call it ineffable.

The structure shatters the status quo view of the world.

Knowledge is power - knowledge could ultimately lead to peace on Earth.

A place should be created for "an international exchange of ideas concerning.. problem[s]....” and “the development of a universal means of creation for all.. an end to... division between.. man"

- DeStijl, Creative Demands

The structure consists of a central atrium, flanked by two wings. The ground floor supports multi-purposes, the lower level houses mechanical spaces, as well as, an underwater observation platform [on the pivotal axis] to bring attention to the horrid river conditions.

Each wing has 3 lecture floors and a child daycare center, which is nestled in the belly of the eye. The mid-level observatories are communally bridged together. The offices make-up the head of the building.

Looking down the atrium, towards the city

Section through the atrium.

The city street supplies all of the utilities to the entire city. In the image to the left, we see the city street bridging over the water and curving up into the heart structure; so that the utilities are fed up thru the entire building in the traditional, yet metaphorical manner. Breathing life into the structure. Supplying all that which it needs to sustain itself.

We should "provide the maximum number of favorable opportunities for large populations to intermingle and interact.. to focus human activates, and to make visible by symbolic magnification, the true nature of the human prospect "

- Lewis Mumford, The Urban Prospect
